I respect the President because he has made good decisions where he needed to make them. Also, he has served up the left with what wouldn't work but would pacify. He didn't lead when leadership wasn't needed. The country needed to re-invent itself as a society of individuals rather than persist with the individual society that was the trend until 1980. Thus, the country needed a leader who wouldn't lead, so the individuals had to do something on their own if they wished to grow and prosper. Bill Clinton was the perfect man to do this unusual job. He knows it, but he couldn't come out and say, "I ain't gonna do nutin'. You're gonna have to do it on yur own". He is closer to Reagan than almost anyone can see, certainly more so than was seen in the individual society style of George Bush. Clinton is the obverse of Truman, but his has been equally valuable service.
