NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--Merrill Lynch & Co. initiated coverage of Credence Systems Corp.
(CMOS), Lam Research Corp. (LRCX), Ultratech Stepper Inc. (UTEK), Applied Materials Inc.
(AMAT), Integrated Process Equipment Corp. (IPEC) and KLA Instruments Corp. (KLAC)
with intermediate-term neutral and long-term buy ratings, according to a contact at the firm.

Merrill also initiated coverage of LTC Corp. (LTXX), Genus Inc. (GGNS), Novellus Systems
Inc. (NVLS), Kulicke & Soffa Industries Inc. (KLIC), OnTrak Systems Inc. (ONTK),
Electroglas Inc. (EGLS) and Electro Scientific Industries Inc. (ESIO) with intermediate-term and
long-term neutral ratings.

Finally, Merrill initiated coverage of Silicon Valley Group Inc. (SVGI) with an intermediate-term
neutral and a long-term above average rating.
