I believe what you're seeing is the saturation point of EBay - that is, when too many items are listed, there are not enough buyers for them. Yahoo has not reached that point yet - that's why you had better results there. Maybe that's the reason Yahoo's auction count growth is much faster than EBay's (compare at auctioncounts.com)
