Delivers Data Management and Synchronization Solutions Tailored for the Embedded Systems Market; Announces Evaluation Copy for Wind River Systems
SAN JOSE, Calif., Sept. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Leveraging its leadership position in the mobile and embedded computing market, Sybase, Inc. (Nasdaq: SYBS) today announced that it is extending its recently announced e-Anywhere(TM) business strategy, designed to power next generation mobile e-Business solutions, to embedded systems. Sybase plans to provide data management and synchronization technologies specifically tailored to the embedded systems market, enabling revolutionary 'intelligent' applications for a variety of embedded devices including Internet appliances, industrial controllers, office equipment, set-top boxes, and consumer appliances.
Sybase also announced today that its data management and synchronization technologies are available for evaluation for the Wind River Systems' Tornado(TM) development platform and VxWorks(R) real-time operating system. In addition, Sybase has plans to support the QNX Neutrino, Integrated Systems pSOSystem and Microsoft Windows CE real-time operating systems. More than 150 companies have already expressed interest in evaluating these new embedded technologies. These integrated embedded data management solutions will be demonstrated at the Embedded Systems Conference (Wind River booth #316 and Microsoft booth #1108), being held here this week.
"As intelligent embedded devices proliferate the market, we believe that by partnering with companies like Sybase in our WindLink(TM) Partner program, customers building these kinds of devices will have better choices for solving their development needs," said Tracy Butler, director of strategic programs, Wind River Systems. "By combining Sybase's leading technology for connecting mobile and embedded systems to the enterprise with Wind River's industry leading Tornado platform and VxWorks RTOS, our two companies can offer a highly effective embedded development environment for this market."
"The use of proprietary data management solutions in the embedded market has limited the ability of developers to design embedded systems with enhanced levels of sophistication and intelligence," said Chris Kleisath, director of product management, Sybase's Mobile and Embedded Computing division. "Sybase's new data management and synchronization technologies will provide embedded developers with a fully-functional data solution for enabling embedded devices to be integrated as key components in an enterprise solution."
As a part of its e-Anywhere strategy for embedded systems, Sybase is providing data management and synchronization technologies to simplify the development of applications for embedded systems and offer better scalability, extensibility, support and performance. Sybase will address three key areas:
-- Enterprise synchronization and distribution -- Sybase provides a data synchronization platform that enables the automatic exchange of e- Business information between embedded devices and enterprise computing systems. This synchronization architecture will provide a single point of integration for all enterprise information from a variety of embedded and intelligent devices, including Internet appliances, industrial controllers, office equipment, set-top boxes and consumer appliances.
-- Small footprint, local data store -- Leveraging its leading SQL Anywhere(TM) Studio database technology, Sybase is providing a data management technology specifically designed for real-time and embedded systems. The data store has an extremely small footprint, typically less than 100K, and features flash, in-memory, and file data storage for embedded applications. Sybase is also providing a C++ API to control the data store for the highest level of flexibility and performance.
-- Service, Education and Support-Sybase provides developers with education and consulting to help jumpstart the development of embedded applications by aiding in project definition, design, development, and support. Sybase also offers its Sybase Developer Network(TM) to provide a central point of access to technical information and services, including product and technical whitepapers, product downloads and development tips.
