Premisys Integrated Access Solutions Earn NEBS Level 3 Certification
Premisys Q-155 and IMACS Platforms Pass Industry's Ultimate Stress Test,
  Opening Door to New Markets
FREMONT, Calif., Sept. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Premisys Communications' (Nasdaq: PRMS) flagship broadband and narrowband integrated access products have passed Telcordia(TM) Technologies' (formerly Bellcore) Network Equipment-Building System (NEBS) Level 3 criteria, a requirement of many major carriers for deployment of equipment in their networks.
Premisys' Q-155 Broadband Integrated Access Solution and Integrated Multiple Access Communications Server (IMACS) have attained the Telcordia "carrier-class" certification, considered the telecommunications industry's toughest stress test for equipment operation, after undergoing a gauntlet of tests to determine the equipment's fitness for use in telecommunications networks. The NEBS Level 3 certification applies to network equipment that serves critical functions. It specifies extreme physical and electrical requirements that provide the highest level of assurance that equipment will continue to operate day in and day out.
NEBS Level 3 compliance is considered a requirement for deployment of equipment in a network operated by a regional Bell operating company and other major telecommunications service providers. Thus, attaining the certification opens the door to new markets for Premisys.
"While NEBS Level 3 certification is required by many major carriers for equipment purchased for their networks, it's important to all carriers who want to ensure the reliability of their systems even under the most extreme conditions," said Steve Gleave, marketing vice president for Premisys. "Therefore, we're delighted that our two most prominent products have attained NEBS Level 3 certification. It says a lot about the products, but it's also a statement about the quality of our design work, which is aimed at ensuring continuous service in all of our products."
Premisys' Q-155 platform allows carriers to aggregate time division multiplexed and asynchronous transfer mode traffic onto synchronous optical networks or synchronous digital hierarchy networks, achieving cost and operational efficiencies over traditional overlay network designs. The IMACS achieves similar efficiencies in narrowband networks by consolidating a wide variety of voice and data services and technologies, including Internet access, private lines, high- and low-speed data, integrated routing, integrated services digital network, frame relay, Internet protocol and asynchronous transfer mode onto a minimal number of T1 or E1 lines.
