BIOMETRIC SECURITY CORP ("BMS-V;BMSX-L") - New Veriprox Reader Gains Strong Industry Support

Biometric Security Corp. is pleased to announce that over seventeen globally recognized security organizations will be displaying and promoting Biometric Identification's new Veriprox at the upcoming American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS) Exhibition September 27th-29th in Las Vegas. The Veriprox leverages fingerprint verification and proximity card reader technology to hinder unauthorized access via lost or stolen proximity cards by requiring that the fingerprint of the person seeking entry match the identity of the cardholder. Biometric ID is working with a wide network of distributors and OEMs to advance the product, which recently won the Security Industry Association's New Product Achievement award for Biometrics at the International Security Conference ("ISC") '99 show in New York City. The following organizations will present the new Veriprox reader at ASIS International:

Ademco (Booth #1618), Andover Controls (Booth #424), Apollo (Booth #1556), Cansec (Booth #2374), Cardkey (Booth#704), Checkpoint (Booth #49), DMP (Booth #668), Galaxy (Booth #2369), HID (Booth #838), Infographics (Booth #1150), Lenel (Booth #1346), Napco (Booth # 2103), Northern Computers (Booth #1528), Radionics (Booth # 1848), Simplex (Booth #1104), Sensormatic (Booth #1128), and Ultrak (Booth #504).

Ademco

"The Veriprox reader is the ideal solution for Ademco Pass Point Customers who wish to add the heightened security of fingerprint verification to certain entry points" said Pat Adamo, Director of Engineering for Ademco. "We applaud Biometric ID's adoption of industry standards, such as the Veriprox's Pigtail Wire Connection for RS232, RS485, and Wiegand."

Cansec

"We are developing a family of fingerprint verification access readers utilizing the new MV1100 OEM module from Biometric Identification. The first integrated fingerprint verification readers to be launched will be a Dallas Semiconductor iButton reader and an AWID based Prox reader. We are pleased and excited to be amongst the first to integrate Biometric ID's latest technology targeted specifically at OEM's such as ourselves" said Fred Dawber, President of Cansec.

Cardkey

"I see the Veriprox as a practical solution to a common problem, where you need to integrate proximity and biometrics into aesthetically pleasing solution, said Derek Trimble, VP of Marketing and New Product Development for Cardkey. "With our mid to high end security solutions we see the Veriprox as a very real adjunct to our reader range when the customer needs enhanced security with a biometric fingerprint solution."

Corby

"Corby recently installed the Veriprox with our System 2 Demonstration unit, a 2-door Windows-compatible access control system. Setting up the Veriprox was extremely easy," said Earl Kingsley, Director of Engineering for Corby Industries. "And, unlike many optically-based fingerprint readers, my finger did not have to be positioned "just right" for the reader to work. I like the effort Biometric ID put into the design; it has a new, solid appearance but without appearing bulky or boxy. For the customer that wants the extra security that comes with fingerprint identification, the Veriprox is a bargain".

DMP

"DMP is pleased to see the integration of Biometric ID fingerprint technology with HID proximity. The easy to use, less expensive design is a great fit for DMP XR Series Access Control Panels", said Marc Mills, Director of Product Development for Digital Monitoring Products (DMP).

Northern

"Northern is pleased to offer our customers the option to utilize Biometric ID's new Veriprox when additional security is required," said John Smith, product manager. "The Veriprox integrates with all Northern Computers' access control systems, providing our customers flexibility and peace of mind."

Radionics

"Forward thinking customers are already requesting the Veriprox-Radionics/Readykey solution for their unique access requirements. We are delighted that we will now be able to meet their functional needs with an economical and aesthetically pleasing product offering", said Gary Kallman, VP of Sales for Radionics.

"Biometric ID thanks all of our OEM partners and distributors for their support of our new Veriprox reader", said Robert Kamm, President and CEO of Biometric Identification. "The Veriprox was built based on suggestions and feedback from our current install base of over four thousand Veriprint 2100 fingerprint verification terminals and we are naturally pleased to see this immediate wide scale adoption by industry leaders."

ABOUT THE VERIPROX

Advanced fingerprint identification technology: The Veriprox's fingerprint identification mechanism is based on Biometric ID's patented Ridge Recognition(tm) technology, the industry-leading fingerprint verification algorithm stemming from 20 years of experience in designing systems for the U.S. Department of Defense. Using two-dimensional imaging and a strategy of comparing the unique ridge and valley pattern of the finger rather than minutia points, the system adjusts for variables like dirt and cuts by performing a series of filtering processes.

Specifications: The Veriprox incorporates Biometric ID's embedded business card-sized MV1100 fingerprint verification module with a fingerprint sensor chip, a proximity card reader and RS232/RS485, and Wiegand communication interfaces in a mullion mount compatible case.

One-second verification: When a person seeks entry, the Veriprox unit reads the identifying number on the proximity card and retrieves the corresponding fingerprint template. The user then inserts his or her fingertip into the sensor groove. The Veriprox calculates a score, which is compared to an administrator-defined threshold to determine whether to let the candidate pass. The entire process takes less than one second.

Intuitive user interface: The red, green and amber LED signals used to permit and bar entry are based on standard proximity card feedback so that users do not have to learn a new system. The unit also utilizes a ridge lock that aids in proper finger placement for efficient processing.

Easy retrofitting: Organizations that already have a 26 bit HID or Motorola proximity card access control system but require the additional security of fingerprint verification in certain areas can swap the readers on those doors for the Veriprox unit.

Interoperability between sensors: The Veriprox's platform-independent design makes it possible to both enroll and verify fingerprints on sensors from leading manufacturers, including both the latest silicon fingerprint sensor chips and the older optical systems. This interoperability will permit the addition of new Veriprox units in the future without re-enrolling users even if the sensor changes. It will also allow enterprises to use the same infrastructure for other fingerprint verification systems such as computer log-ons, eliminating the need for separate enrollments and databases.
