<Jacobs, who is also chairman, said the company needs to boost its shares outstanding so more people can buy them.> What on earth does this mean? If they split the shares, buyers just get a smaller percentage ownership in the company. If they sell more stock, the company just builds up its cash reserves at the expense of the existing owners' interest. What's the obstacle to people buying that new shares will lower?
