[MSFT WebTV]
John --
Thanks for the TeleChoice link. I wasn't quite sure how the WebTV announcement would affect DSL and appreciate their summary:
<<<So, let's tabulate the benefits here:
1. You've got a populace that is going to be incented to go to DigitalTV. The fuzzy images of the Web will give way to more crisp images.
2. You've got a much large populace than projected before that is going to start using electronic commerce. This will require more image downloads, and other high bandwidth needs.
3. You've got a ubiquity that is going to require an equally ubiquitous high bandwidth access stream.
Now, you could argue that it only needs a really asymmetrical stream, leaving options for those products with 28.8Kbps/57.6Kbps analog upstreams. But the reality is that Microsoft is heavily into the conferencing concept, and TeleChoice doubts that Microsoft would settle for such connectivity. And, these devices are likely to be increasingly access independent, meaning that they'll work with cable modems, xDSL, satellite, etc.
In all, this is great news for xDSL! >>> |
