Doug,<OFF TOPIC-SUDAN POLITICS> Certainly, 100% agreed a Peace Agreement would certainly be good for Talisman and even more important, beneficial to the citizens of of both North and South Sudan, or at least that is what a fair Peace Agreement should bring IMO. At times like this I sometimes ask myself why I am not busy confusing myself with material by Martin Pring rather than trying to figure out the complexities of the Sudan politics. However, in my humble opinion, for what it's worth, a common denominator in all of the civil unrest is intra-tribal friction. We have the North fighting against the South and we have intra-tribal friction in both areas. For example: "Six die in Sudan tribal clashes" sudan.net also "The Dinka and Nuer are the south's two biggest tribes and traditional rivals" sudan.net

In view of all this confusion and intra-fighting it is interesting to note that Col. John Garang of the SPLA and Mr. el-Mahdi of the Umma Party, after fighting side by side actually won the civil war to restore democracy for a brief period around 1985. Shortly afterwards Col Garang declared war on the Mr. el-Mahdi's government. Seems like the two pro-democracy groups weakened themselves through this intra-fighting process that allowed the current NIF government to walk in and take control. All said, IMO what is needed in Sudan is leadership that will bring unity vice confusion. Just an opinion. Ed
