McCain is a prop for the liberal media to bash Reps on what should be the Dems weakness - campaign scandals. The media diverts the debate using an unelectable stalking horse like McCain who willingly parrots their lines in exchange for favorable press. (McCain invites mixed metaphors) If McCain were any threat to the liberal agenda they wouldn't be singing his praises.

What's truly frightening about McCain and his clarion call for campaign finance "reform" is that his "reform" is not just a campaign theme but rather a frontal assault on political speech from the same crowd who gave us a "Reform Party" and our present scandals. Their present gift and abomination - the "Reform" Party - is entitled to government funding despite the fact that it is not a real party and just the plaything of a few crazed puppet masters, Perot and the wrestler et al.

McCain is all about followership - following the media line. Why has McCain been AWOL on the Dem funny money scandals? Why isn't McCain using his position as a so-called "maverick" and Senate leader to go after the criminality in the Clinton/AlGore administration? Why is he part of the Dem/liberal media campaign to divert that issue into a club to be used against Republicans?

McCain is craven. Bob Novack's recent column on McCain's opportunism regarding Pat Buchanan is instructive - McCain turns on Buchanan soley as an opportunity to grandstand and attack Bush for what is forward-looking discretion. McCain will do anything, like abandoning his position on abortion or destroying the Republican's chances for unity - to advance his interests. That's because McCain is a demogogue - little wonder he is every liberal's choice and the Dem's favorite for the Republican nomination.
