World DRAM Price] DRAM Prices for Contract Users Soar to US$6 in N. America, Europe and Asia
September 29, 1999 (TOKYO) -- The prices of DRAMs for large users reached the US$6 mark in North America, Europe and Asia, and the memory module's spot price in these regions also soared.
According to a global DRAM price survey by ICIS-LOR, which has business bases in London, Houston and Singapore, the respective 30-day rolling average prices in North America, Europe and Asia of 64Mb DRAMs (8M x 8, PC100) sold to large users between Aug. 12 and Sept. 10, 1999 were US$6.24, US$6.28 and US$6.48.
The price in North America was up 7.02 percent, up 4.66 percent in Europe and up 5.94 percent in Asia compared with the respective 30-day rolling average prices of the DRAMs in these three regions up to Sept. 3, 1999.
As for memory modules, the spot price of 64Mb dual in-line memory modules (DIMM, PC100) in North America was up 11.82 percent from the previous week to US$65.61, up 15.19 percent to US$68.77 in Europe and up 13.47 percent to US$66.80 in Asia.
The few months leading to October is the period when manufacturers market new products in succession, so demand for DRAMs becomes strongest. Because of this, price increases are expected to continue into October. The rise seems to stop in and after November, when demand will ease off.
