Zoltek has three main products, each representing about a third of the
business. He buys acrylic spun fibers from Courtaulds in large 320,000
filament count tows. The first process is a oxidation step which thermally
stabilizes the fibers. It is at this point that the fibers can be handled
in the automated equipment to make forms for brake production. This fiber
sells for less than $5 per pound.

The second step is actually a two step carbonization which takes
the fiber up to 94% carbon. It is at this stage that carbon
fibers have their best structural properties and is the $8
fiber advertised.

Zoltek also sells loads of milled and chopped fibers. These can be
made from good carbonized fibers or from scrap fibers. Zoltek further
high heat treats fibers and advertises these at 99+% purity.

Talk of misleading, read the latest 10K. Zolt says that they used the
Magyar Viscosa acrylic and made fibers which came back from testing as
good. Whsat he didn't say is that these scrapped out on the line, and
were then sent through the high temp heat treat process and ended up
as milled fibers. Not a totally honest answer and definately designed
to mislead.

Regards.

Jake
