Eicon's WAN Cards to Support Microsoft Windows NT
Embedded 4.0-New Embedded Operating Systems Calls for Strong WAN Solution

SEPTEMBER 29, 1999
SAN JOSE, CALIFORNIA--EMBEDDED SYSTEMS CONFERENCE, BOOTH #4418,
Eicon Technology, a global leader in remote access solutions,
today announced that its EiconCard family of WAN interface cards
and Developer Toolkits support Microsoft Corp.'s (NASDAQ: MSFT)
new Windows NT Embedded 4.0 operating system. This allows
EiconCards to offer connectivity solutions to the next generation
of embedded solutions that are built on the rock-solid, flexible
and scalable Windows NT Embedded platform.
Embedded devices that can take advantage of Eicon's WAN
connectivity solutions for the Windows NT Embedded platform
include self-service kiosks, Automated Teller Machines, Multimedia
Payphones, Retail/Point-of-Sale Systems, Thin Servers and Internet
Appliances. Companies such as Fujitsu, INETCO Systems, Siemens
Nixdorf and Wyse Technology are using Eicon solutions in their
systems for these markets.
As products using 32-bit processors are becoming standard in the
embedded systems market, customers are demanding more
functionality from these devices. By using the Windows NT
Embedded platform, these devices can offer improved functionality,
while allowing them to be integrated into the existing corporate
IT infrastructure. In addition, the availability of pre-existing
development tools for the Windows NT platform allows companies to
build and deploy their products in a much quicker fashion.
"Eicon's prior integration work in many of the embedded markets
that we are targeting with Windows NT Embedded will enable our
products to work together very closely to bring powerful solutions
to our mutual customers," said Vince Mendillo, lead product
manager, Microsoft Corp. "As the communications needs of
specialized devices grow, we are confident that Eicon's WAN
adapters can accommodate the wide variety of applications that
will develop in the embedded market."
"Support for Windows NT Embedded 4.0 is consistent with our strong
sales and rapid growth in the Embedded markets worldwide," said
Ken Gingrich, Senior Vice President, Worldwide Sales and Marketing
Operations, Eicon Technology. "This builds on our already
comprehensive support for the Windows NT environment and our
long-term, close working relationship with Microsoft."
