Phobia an irrational fear, says expert

If it comes from DAWN, it MUST be DARN GOOD.
HATE >>BJP, VHP, RSS, SHIV SENA. No problem. Answer DENSITIZATION AND SYMBIOSIS: There is a cure for this HATE. Progressive incremental exposure to these objects or targets of HATE , study of these HATED objects, >> Meditate on the FUTILITY OF HATE. The object, person or situation are NOT going away. Therefore, develop a SYMBIOTIC MENTAL RELATIONSHIP , ADJUSTMENT & EQUILIBRIUM to the OBJECTS OF FEAR, HATE AND ANXIETY, in order that you can live longer, stay happy, AVOID becoming an INCURABLE , HARD-CORE CYNIC and PREVENT DEVELOPING HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE , DIABETES, INSOMNIA, CONSTANT IRRITABILITY & HAIR-TRIGGER TEMPER.
Constant Fault-finding and self-justification, self-assertion, obstinacy, dissimulation and lying are not good as per Swami Vishnu Devananda.

ISLAMABAD, Sept 28: Phobia is an irrational FEAR, HATE and ANXIETY towards a particular OBJECT, PERSON, OR SITUATION, said Dr Aftab Ahmed Khan at a seminar, organized by Rozan, an NGO here on Saturday.

The phobic individuals, he said, "usually know that the fear does not pose any danger but
they could not control their irrational feelings.

Dr Khan said among the three common types of phobias agoraphobia, was the fear of being in situations from which escape might be difficult. He said that fear of
embarrassment played a key role in that kind of phobia.

Such people, he went on to say, "avoid crowds, public places, travelling in public transport, and prefer to remain home alone.

Dr Khan said that social phobia was the persistent fear of ordinary activities in public places, like eating in a restaurant or speaking to others in a similar environment.

"Simple or specific phobia typically involve a strong fear and avoidance of one particular type of object or situation".

Among the most common phobias are: animal phobia, acrophobia (fear of heights), elevator phobia, phobias of thunder and lightening, blood-injury phobia, hydrophobia (fear of water), claustrophobia (fear of close places), and illness phobia.

Dr Saima Ashraf said in her lecture that there were different causes of phobias. Two types of processes, most commonly responsible, are conditioning and trauma, she said.
Trauma is not always involved in the creation of a phobia, but conditioning processes are always present.

She said that there were two types of conditioning that contributed to the formulation of phobia, one was conditioning by association and the other by avoidance.

Talking about the treatment, Ms Ashraf said behavioural techniques like imagery and real life desensitization, modelling and cognitive therapy was very effective for the treatment of phobias.

Ms.Ashraf: PRANAYAMA, MEDITATION (JAPA), ANNAM, YOGIC EXERCISES by any other name are the same

She said for the treatment of physical symptoms of phobias, deep breathing and relaxation exercises, physical exercises and nutritional improvements were very effective, she said.
