BMG/Wyndham Hill Provides DVD Software Demonstration Disc Featuring George Winston In Concert
Samsung Electronics America, Inc., one of the first manufacturers to introduce DVD players to the US market, celebrates its New York area DVD launch with two days of demonstrations at Harvey Electronics in Manhattan at 2 West 45th Street (between 5th Avenue and 6th Avenue) on April 8th and 9th. The premiere of Samsung's DVD unit (model DVD705) is highlighted by Samsung's exclusive BMG/Wyndham Hill DVD software demonstration disc featuring George Winston In Concert. Mark Knox, Senior National Marketing Manager, Digital Products Group, said, "The Harvey Electronics DVD launch is a great opportunity for Samsung to fully demonstrate the premium capability of the new format via our exclusive George Winston Concert disc. Through this medium, consumers can truly experience the significance of our DVD player's multi-angle, multi-language and other interactive features." Samsung's demonstration disc features selected songs from a recent George Winston concert special entitled "George Winston Seasons In Concert." Working in conjunction with BMG Records' subsidiary Wyndham Hill Records, and the creative and technical staff of Oregon Public Broadcasting, Samsung arranged for the additional equipment required to record multiple camera images during the Nashville, TN concert. The disc also includes footage shot in Hawaii, featuring exciting video of wind surfers enjoying the peak of the seasonal trade winds. Final encoding and authoring was performed at CRUSH Digital Video in New York City. Additional high resolution video was prepared by Samsung's Video Media Division. The complete disc highlights the many enhanced viewing features offered by Samsung's DVD player such as six camera angles, six spoken languages and six sets of subtitles. An advanced menu system allows the user to select language options at the beginning of the disc, or select subtitles, languages and camera angles "on the fly." The design and graphics treatment for the packaging were carefully coordinated with Samsung's ongoing advertising campaign "Simply DVD." In addition to the multi-angle capability, Samsung's DVD705 offers Dolby Digital optical and coaxial terminals to enable 5.1 channel surround sound that accurately reproduces movie theater ambiance. Two sets of stereo audio terminals and two composite video terminals are provided, along with an S- VHS video terminal for superior picture quality. Additionally, an advanced fluorescent display is provided, complete with brightness adjustments to further enhance the theater ambiance. The DVD705 can playback up to eight different stereo languages, and as many as 32 possible subtitles. Samsung's DVD player has 500 lines of resolution, making it twice as clear as the average VCR, to provide the ultimate in realistic video playback. Special effects capabilities include ultra-clear fast forward, slow motion, still frame and single frame advance DVD playback. The multi-aspect ratio function precisely reproduces letter box, wide screen, and pan and scan formatted movies originally designed for wide-screen projection. The DVD705 debuts with a $749.99 suggested retail price.
