Getting rid of my cable modem....

I'm in a sparsely populated area and figured that I wouldn't have much competition for bandwidth. WRONGO!!!! Half the time this baby is as slow as my 28.8 modem. When it works, it works great BUT it isn't worth the extra cost for erratic performance. Granted I only have a one-way cable modem meaning I still need a phone line and the price is $50.00 a month as opposed to $40.00 a month with two-way cable modem offered by another cable company 10 miles down the road. BTW, they are both owned by Paul Allen meaning they will eventually come up with similar price points.

Waiting for ADSL. Currently with GTE phone service (high priced gougers) which is apparently offering ADSL to all GTE customers by end of the year. We shall see. I'm afraid their price structure will also rape my finances. Is Bell Atlantic more merciful than GTE? I hope so as they will be merging first of the millennium.

Internet makes me poor.
