Eagle Geophysical files chapter 11 bankruptcy

WILMINGTON, Del., Sept 29 (Reuters) - Eagle Geophysical Inc. and 16 affiliates filed for Chapter 11 protection late Wednesday in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Delaware.

In court papers the company listed assets of $208.7 million and liabilities of $167.6 million. The papers also indicated that there was one holder of unspecified secured debt and 15 holders of unsecured debt.

On Sept. 14, Eagle said it was unable to meet a July 15 interest payment on $100 million in 10 3/4 percent senior notes due 2008.

In court papers, Eagle listed Chase Bank of Texas as the trustee for its largest unsecured claim of $107.2 million.

Eagle Geophysical provides onshore and offshore seismic data acquisition services to the petroleum industry.

No one at the company's offices in Houston, Texas, was available for comment at this time.

Glad I sold this one quite awhile back. Delisting appears to be a certainty.
