OT - I didn't know that about the Chinese. I hear people in Pakistan do it that way too . . . well sort of.

I knew a girl from Pakistan once and she said that you take your father's last name as your first name. So her father's last name was Farrah and her full name was Farrah Deba. Her child's name would start with Deba and have a different last name.

Don't ask me what they do when there's more than one kid. Hmmmmmmmmmm coming up with a name at birth must be a mind twisting experience.
