AT&T's wireless strategy is looking more and more like its cable strategy. As Gilder has pointed out, T seems to have bought the cable companies to compete with the baby bells for voice traffic when all of the revenue growth is moving to data.

It looks like they are abandoning wireless data as well in their short-sighted commitment to TDMA. Well they are consistent if nothing else. When they finally move to CDMA, the move (and they) may not matter as much as they do right now.

On a related issue, if WCOM does buy Sprint, it will be a huge plus for QCOM. While Sprint's service may have some problems (as has been mentioned on this and the other Q thread), I expect it will improve and flourish under the guiding hand of Ebbers, et al. And the linking of Sprint PCS and WCOM's backbone should be an awesome combination.

And as CDMA services grow, so does QCOM's revenues, profits and stock price. All IMHO.
