IMO stock buybacks are nothing more than a tool used by mgmt. to show the investing public that they feel their company is undervalued and that they have faith in the future of the company. It also has the effect of inflating e.p.s. as it will be calculated on fewer shares. The public always seems to view announcements of stock buybacks as positive, but to tell the truth I personally feel that the money could be more wisely used for some other purpose.
