BOSTON and TORONTO, Sep 30, 1999 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Kafus Industries Ltd. (AMEX:KS) and The CanFibre Group Ltd. (Canadian Dealing Network:CFGL) are pleased to announce that CanFibre's Riverside MDF facility has now successfully produced its first run of premium AllGreen(TM) MDF of sufficient high standard to wear the AllGreen(TM) label. Although the facility has been producing starter and shop grade MDF since late May of this year, this marks the first time that CanFibre's Riverside plant has consistently produced a premium industrial grade MDF.
CanFibre's AllGreen(TM) MDF is unique because it combines superior properties over standard industrial grade MDF with the additional features of zero incremental formaldehyde emissions, superior moisture resistance and the distinct "green" market advantages of being made from 100% recovered wood fibre.
The following are AllGreen(TM) MDF's average properties obtained from tests on recent Riverside AllGreen(TM) production compared with the average test results on the properties of competitive MDF currently distributed in the U.S.A.
AllGreen(TM) Average Competitive Properties Internal Bond (PSI) 156 120 Modulus Rupture (PSI) 4,882 4,325 Modulus of Elasticity (PSI) 587,500 332,000 Screwhold - Edge (PSI) 442 286 Screwhold - Face (PSI) 354 257 Thickness Swell (%) 6.5 9.9
CanFibre expects to begin commercial shipment of AllGreen(TM) standard MDF within the next 10 days. CanFibre also expects to begin shipping AllGreen(TM) MR (moisture resistant) during the same period. AllGreen(TM) FR (fire resistant) should begin shipment in late October.
In other news, construction of CanFibre's second MDF facility in Lackawanna is proceeding well as construction nears the halfway point of its 18-month schedule. The main building is fully erected with the press equipment already in the process of being installed. Lackawanna is a "sister" facility to Riverside and has incorporated numerous small advancements which should result in an even faster completion and ramp-up period than Riverside. First board is anticipated for mid-2000. The plant manager, Kurt Williams, is now on site and has begun forming a second strong management team to complement the team in Riverside.
An emerging global manufacturer of superior materials produced from sustainable resources.
