Hi, Charlie! We've been so quiet, I almost forget I own this stock.

MAPS keeps doing business as usual. They keep adding smaller products to build a larger portfolio of solutions.

Happily Long MAPS,

MapInfo and Northwood Announce Release of deciBel Planner 1.5
deciBel Planner 1.5 to Offer Additional RF Propagation Models for Wireless Industry
NEW ORLEANS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept, 20, 1999--MapInfo Corporation (NASDAQ/NM:MAPS - news) and Northwood Geoscience Ltd. today announced the release of deciBel Planner 1.5, an innovative RF network planning tool. Features include new capabilities for cellular/PCS based networks and increased support for emerging broadband technologies. Demonstrations of deciBel Planner are available at MapInfo's booth (#4508) at the PCS '99 show.

''MapInfo's commitment to the telecommunications industry continues to be a top priority,'' said Mark Gunn, MapInfo's vice president of marketing. ''We have joined forces with Northwood to combine resources and broaden access to deciBel Planner. Together, we will continue to deliver the leading-edge technology that our customers demand in this dynamic industry.''

As the first comprehensive GIS-based RF propagation modeling and network planning tool, deciBel Planner brings together RF propagation and spatial analysis to help cellular/PCS, broadcast and paging companies build and optimize network coverage, both in the office and in the field. With deciBel Planner, engineers can analytically compare RF propagation results with field tests, select transmission tower locations, and distribute the information via MapInfo Professional across an organization, from the engineering department to the marketing and customer service departments.

''This latest release once again demonstrates Northwood's commitment to not only meet but exceed expectations in delivering innovative network planning capabilities for the wireless telecommunications industry,'' said Neil Pearson, telecom products manager at Northwood. ''With its expanded suite of RF analysis tools and enhanced support for emerging broadband technologies, deciBel Planner is strongly positioned to address the mission-critical accuracy and spatial data integration issues facing today's wireless operators.''

deciBel Planner 1.5 New Features

In addition to the product's flagship physical optics propagation model, the newest version of deciBel Planner offers multiple propagation models for the cellular industry including FCC-mandated models. The following new features are available in deciBel Planner 1.5:

Full support for two-way paging: The Paging Module now offers full support for two-way paging and a wide selection of outputs for two-way paging network analysis such as best server, reverse link, signal capture, excess delay, and composite displays.
New propagation models: Complementing the product's flagship CRC Predict and FCC-mandated propagation models are three new models: (1) Lee Propagation Model to support cellular and PCS network operating up to 1 800 MHz; (2) Longley Rice Point-to-Point Propagation Model to support area and point-to-point modes; and (3) ITU Recommendation 370 Propagation Model to support UHF and VHF broadcast services between 30 and 1 000 MHz.
Enhanced Clutter Property Editor: Clutter attenuations for the expanded suite of propagation models can now be supported.
New FCC Contour and Neighbor List Generators: The FCC Contour Generator incorporates settings for cellular/PCS-based networks in addition to narrow-band PCS and VHF/UHF paging systems, simplifying proposals to the FCC for new sites or modifications to existing sites. The Neighbor List Generator provides critical information on neighboring transmitters.
Enhanced Drive Test Analysis Tool: Completely revamped, the Drive Test Analysis Tool includes the drive test analysis functionality within a single dialogue to step users through all the stages of modeled and measured comparative analysis. Also, the enhanced tool now incorporates changes to optimize the clutter property assignments.
New Surface Analysis Features: New interpolation, grid management, graphing and import/export features will extend user ability to interpolate, analyze and display deciBel Planner and MapInfo data.
Improved RF Import Tool: The RF Import Tool now translates MSI Planet vector files, facilitating the seamless use of Planet prediction data in the deciBel Planner environment.
Pricing and Availability

deciBel Planner 1.5 is available for $18,995. Upgrade pricing is available for current users migrating from deciBel Planner 1.1 to 1.5.
