At the end of a quarter, I like stocks that I feel are not vulnerable to profit warnings, generally speaking.

I recently bought a couple in the Oil Service sector, RIG and OII.
Sizeable correction in the OSX and I think high oil prices will ultimately lead to a significant rally.

I've been sitting on a biotech (MATX) for a while. The stock had a little pop when they spoke of clinical trial results in Europe a couple of weeks ago. They'll speak of them again in New York on November 3.

This is the time of year when I pull some cash to the sidelines to wait for buying opportunities to play for Christmas and January. I'm hoping for some Y2K related sell offs in software particularly. Eventually I think that sector will come roaring back.

The DOW was stubborn at 10000 on the way up. I think it will be stubborn on the way down.

The market has not been holding early rallies well, which tends to shorten my holding period on any longs.

I'm also holding a gold stock from last spring that I bought when England announced their gold sales. There may be a Y2K effect in precious metals as well.
