Gary, I agree with you. This analyst merely pointed out something "unusual" from his perspective. I would agree that the collar is a little unusual. If the stock rebounds to 40, the exec loses 10 points of gain. If the stock tanks to 20, he is protected at 30. Perhaps the analyst view is that this gives some insight into where this particular exec's head is at. Also, since options are a key element of this trade, and they expire at some point, perhaps this a a near term collar that just buys the exec some time until he sell outright for more favorable tax treatment. Obviously, I'm just speculating. In any event, don't shoot me. I'm just reporting to the thread what I heard on CNBS.
