Real gross domestic product -- the output of goods and services produced by labor and property located in the United States -- increased at an annual rate of 1.6 percent in the second quarter of 1999, according to revised estimates released by the Commerce Department's Bureau of Economic Analysis. In the first quarter, real GDP increased 4.3 percent. Real GDP increased $31.0 billion in the second quarter, following an increase of $81.9 billion in the first.

New Home Sales for August = +2.9% to 983k units

Sales of new one-family houses in August 1999 were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 983,000 according to estimates released today by the U.S. Census Bureau and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. This is 3 (+/-9) percent above the revised July rate of 955,000 and 18 (+/-10) percent above the August 1998 rate of 836,000.
