Wayne, You are absolutely right. Professors have so much of the "publish or perish" boogeyman hanging over their heads that they refine their expertise to a smaller and smaller part of the greater reality, until it is unreal. I had a history professor like that as an undergrad. He was the acknowledged expert on Roman Cavalry weapons. So, if you ask a question about why Constantine adopted Christianity as the state religion, his answer would be something like, "wake up, Mister Burke. Have you never noticed the similarity between the cross and the cavalry sword?" <g>
