This is precisely what I was responding to (after having earlier indicated that I understood that "lady" was not acceptable in all contexts):

Its a small thing, but an example of the complete lack of exposure to successful women these right-wingers have. Which in some ways explains their platform on social issues, most of which will be completely ignored by businesswomen if ever enacted into law.

I know not only my wife, but many other businesswomen. Since I never use the term "lady" in any but a social context, I have never run into a problem....Maybe it is different on the West Coast, or among engineers, or in the Bay area, I don't know. Where I am, the mere use of the term is not inherently offensive....
