Novell to buy $100 million of Whittman-Hart stock
NEW YORK, Sept 30 (Reuters) - Network software provider Novell Inc. (NasdaqNM:NOVL - news) will buy $100 million of stock of information technology services company Whittman-Hart Inc. (NasdaqNM:WHIT - news), the companies said on Thursday.

The investment, which represents 6 percent of Whittman-Hart's outstanding capitalization, is the first part of Novell's plan to expand its partnerships with consulting and systems integrator organizations.

Additionally, the two companies said in a statement they had agreed to jointly develop customized Novell Directory Services tools for mid-sized businesses.

Whittman-Hart will also train more than 600 consultants in Novell applications and demonstrate the applications to customers.

The boards of both companies have approved the deal, which is expected to close by November pending antitrust legal approval.

Novell's shares closed at $20.44 on Wednesday on Nasdaq, while Whittman-Hart ended at $35.875.
