OT-I couldn't agree more about the extraordinarily high real interest rates. This put pressure on the fragile foreign economies last year, causing the hedge fund meltdown to spill into the equity markets. Same thing happened in 1994 with sharply rising short rates causing the short-long bond carry trades to a forced, rather than gradual, unwinding that limited the equity markets that year. We could be heading for something similar this year with any more rate rises.
