It is a totally "open" solution that is independent of platforms, databases, or automated data collection technology. It involves real-time, two way data flow. It also involves the transparent distribution of data to multiple ERP, legacy and other applications. It does not require proprietary hardware and it has no real software limitations. It is database driven, and works off of a client/server structure.
It is important to note that when a company purchases a new application they often have to ensure that it will run on their existing systems. The alternative is to replace their equipment and other legacy systems etc, because they feel that the benefits of the new application outweigh the costs. However, because ASI's application is so flexible, it is not restricted to any specific underlying technology (platforms, databases, data collection devices, etc.). This means that almost any company can install ASI's application while still using their existing hardware and legacy software.
