All the top RAM suppliers are making SDRAMs. The new doubled SDRAMs roughly 2X the bandwidth of standard SDRAMs with a small amount of extra circuitry overhead. This provides an improvement in bandwidth without the necessity of going to the more elaborate next generation memory schemes such as RDRAMs. The cost should some down to almost parity with standard EDO DRAMs and should be sufficient for technology and market demand through at least the first half of 1998.
