Fort McMurray
Fort McMurray is a vibrant, urban center in a wilderness setting located 435 km north of Edmonton. Fort McMurray had its origins as the home of the Chipewyan and Woodland Cree Indians. This trading post was built in 1870 by Henry John Moberly who named it after his Chief Factor, William McMurray of the Hudson's Bay Company. Since the development of the oil sands resources in the 1960's, the area has expanded from a new town of 2,515 in 1965 to becoming a full fledged city.

The Tyrell Museum
If you have a fetish for dinosaurs, this $30 million internationally renowned museum features over 50 dinosaur skeletons, as well as the largest display of dinosaur specimens in the world. The museum is devoted to the study of the earth's evolution with primary emphasis on the flora and fauna of Alberta. The Royal Tyrrell offers many opportunities for learning: films, exhibits, preparation laboratory, indoor science garden, models, and a field station at Brooks. The museum is located 6 km (4 miles) northwest on Dinosaur Trail (Hwy 838).
