As to when the chipset will officially be released, that remains unknown. I would expect that it would be shortly, as I?m sure Intel will want to remedy this situation as soon as possible to restore a small bit of dignity. Certainly, the launch will be no later than the launch of their Coppermine processors, as it would be borderline insane to debut their next big processor without an appropriate chipset. For now, the i810e will do, but I can?t see any reason to purchase it. The i810e, like the i810, is a low-end solution, and is designed to be slightly more cost-effective. The terms ?low-end? and ?Pentium III? don?t exactly mix well in my mind, and so they shouldn?t--at this point, purchasing a high-end (not to mention expensive) Pentium 600B, and placing it on a value i810e chipset makes no sense whatsoever.
So, the question is, is Intel insane or not?
