SAN JOSE (Dow Jones)--Amati Communications Corp. (AMTX), Sumitomo Corp. and its Sumitomo Corp. of America unit reached a partnership to distribute Amati's asymmetrical digital subscriber line (ADSL) products in Japan.

In a press release Monday, Amati said the partnership is focused on accelerating the deployment of advanced communications services over existing telephone lines in Japan.

The ADSL products provide access to the Internet, networked multimedia and telecommuting services.

Amati and Sumitomo plan to jointly market the ADSL products.

Amati Communications develops advanced transmission equipment.
