Re: 24 5/16 points now to $50, my projected target for INTC (short term)...

Why would you expect it to hold at $50 - a price it was at a few months ago when AMD was on the ropes, camino looked rock solid if slightly delayed, and the idea that Intel could be shipping unusable high end servers was unimaginable?

Now Athlons are on shelves in stores, the only question is whether IBM's latest Athlon PC will come out next week at 700 or 750MHZ, and Coppermine, which looks as if it might at least compete with Athlon is on hold because of the rambus problem. This high end CPU market is where Intel's profits are made, and they're going to be fighting hard for what used to be a given.

AMD doesn't even need copper parts from Dresden anymore, 800MHZ chips from the shrink to .18 Aluminum will be plenty - and that looks to be pretty much a done deal.

Athlons have been out for weeks now, confidence in them has begin to build as the chips and chipsets are proven in the field. Just in time to be a competitive high end product that can be trusted as production ramps up.

It' going to be about 9 months until Willamette, and until that's out and successful, $50 is more likely a ceiling than a floor.

Dan

PS wonder if anyone will beg to differ.... Paul? Watch that blood pressure! :-)
