Sanctuary Woods Signs Exclusive Agreement to Dispute Six Education Titles for Virgin Sound and Vision
SAN MATEO, Calif., April 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Sanctuary Woods Multimedia Corp today announced it has obtained exclusive rights to distribute six Virgin Sound and Vision educational software programs to the consumer and education markets. The agreement marks Sanctuary Woods' first involvement in the distribution of third-party products, and it reflects a new strategy intended to increase revenues by extending the product offerings available through the company's direct sales force.
"We have spent three years building a direct sales force with a particular emphasis on the education market, and this agreement enables us to leverage that investment," said Charlotte Walker, Sanctuary Woods President and CEO. "By adding products that complement rather than compete with our own, we are laying a foundation to increase sales, deepen our market penetration and strengthen our name recognition in the marketplace."
The agreement covers two award-winning reading and writing programs from Virgin Sound and Vision based on Charles Schulz's Peanuts characters (Get Ready for School, Charlie Brown and Snoopy's Campfire Stories), two acclaimed science titles based on Scientific American's Book for Young Readers (One Small Square: Backyard and One Small Square: Seashore), and two educational interactive adventures scheduled for release in 1997. The respected Bank Street College assisted in developing content or teachers' guides on most of the titles to ensure age and skill appropriateness as well as effectiveness in the classroom.
The One Small Square programs will give Sanctuary Woods a presence in the science content area for the first time. The Peanuts titles will strengthen the company's offerings in the K-4 market, and the interactive adventures will be the first in the company's catalog.
Sanctuary Woods' current product lines include Head Coach, a sports simulation series developed in cooperation with the National Football League and Major League Baseball to teach math and reading, and the Franklin series, based on popular children's books about a young turtle who undergoes many of the same growing experiences as his audience. Franklin also stars in a children's TV show scheduled to debut later this year.
Sanctuary Woods will assume distribution, customer service and technical support responsibilities for all six products in all channels, including the school and retail markets, mass merchants, alternative channels and catalog and international sales.
"We selected Sanctuary Woods to distribute these titles because of their complementary product line as well as their commitment to the education market," said John Owen, President of Virgin Sound and Vision, a children's software publisher based in Hollywood. "We believe this agreement will enable our products to reach the broadest possible audience and achieve the deepest possible penetration in all channels."
Sanctuary Woods was founded in 1988 and is headquartered in San Mateo, CA. The company has developed more than 24 educational titles available in North America and internationally. It went public in 1991. SOURCE Sanctuary Woods Multimedia |
