A Washington Post article this morning details the SDMI initiative and companies they claim may "get a major piece of the action." Liquid Audio is among them.

But the article also goes on to say, "And new hardware should handle the different formats without the consumer needing to bother with translation software..."

Lucas Graves, an analyst covering Web technologies and digital music for Jupiter Communications is quoted as saying, "As downloading becomes more mainstream, any company that wants to make money has to guarantee that the consumer doesn't have to worry about three-letter extensions."

Anyone out there know of such a company?

Link is at washingtonpost.com/ffwd under the Fast Forward column, but the article hasn't yet been posted to that site
