As far as I can tell, the CoolPix 700 differs from the 950 mainly in not having an optical zoom lens (but it still allows digital zoom). The resolution and detail in color prints is quite a complicated issue. Now that I'm getting some experience, I can see how the proper use of software such as Adobe Photoshop (the most difficult and complex software ever written for personal computers) can make a great difference in results. The highest resolution setting for these 2+ megapixel cameras will ordinarily be impractical for everyday use, except where you are enlarging a portion of the original and don't want to lose detail. My point is that the camera itself is only one part of the equation. The print software (or software for preparation of images to be displayed on the computer screen) is just as important, as is the ability of the photographer to handle the software. I've already purchased two books on Photoshop.
