Sam and all,

Maybe the WDC recall will have a silver lining for the industry.

Is it possible that the PC makers will rethink their strategy of pitting drive makers against each other based on price? Will reliability sell at a premium now?

I can't shed any tears over the PC makers problem with this. They are largely to blame for commoditizing the disk drive. They may try and take their wrath out on WDC, but what do you expect when you are earning more for reselling a product than the manufacturer makes for producing it? In Western's case infinitely more as their profits are zero. ;-)

Also, I don't think that WDC's efforts at being responsible will do them one bit of good. This will hurt them.

Once again, Dell and their model come out on top. Remarkable!
