Lisa, I must disagree to an extent. There may have been some other forces at work but, Reagan's build up of the military and willingness to build the "Star Wars" defense system so awed the Russians, because they knew perfectly well that their economy could not keep pace, that they chose the better part of valor and retreated. One of the problems though, is that we considered this retreat to be a defeat. As is becoming evident, they are coming at us from a different angle and are, in noway, to be trusted as a world partner. IMO, we were utter fools to engage in the cooperative space station venture. They are going to have access to the station and we are going to foot the entire bill. I fear what may happen when,both Russians and Americans are on the station. I would not be surprised at a violent take over by a group of people who are descendants of the Scythians.^ ^ ^TD
