OT - Bandwidth Glut, Colos, and Easements
MFG, did you mention bandwidth glut? I'd be more concerned about a colo glut. Someone tell me that there is not [already?] going to be a colocation glut. Or a glut of "Internet by-passes" such as P-NAPs and private Internet Data Centers, for as long as those terms can sustain their relevance before being absorbed into just another stratum of what constitutes the Internet?
Re: Colos, from today's NEW TOPICS in SI [albeit, all from the same individual]: one for the Coffee Shop section, one for the Computers section, and the other, for the Miscellaneous section:
Subject 30945 Subject 30946 Subject 30947 I would let this pass, were it not for the fact that this is so emblematic of what is taking place right now in some corners of the real estate industry, and by some larger IT-aware tenants who at one time overbought their long term leases, prior to the advent of the virtual office. Can you envision a point in time when every major office building and campus complex has their own colo easement, similar to those that have always been used for telco and other utility purposes? Or will that need and functionality be subsumed by the 'net, first? |
