Lycos plans online shopping mall By CBS MarketWatch Last Update: 7:01 PM ET Sep 29, 1999 SAN FRANCISCO (CBS.MW) -- Lycos' chief operating officer, Edward Philip said the web portal will lauch an online shopping mall called LYCOShop in November. The mall will be similar Amazon.com's (AMZN: news, msgs) newly announced shopping mall in that Lycos (LCOS: news, msgs) will charge a monthly rental fee to tenants wishing to sell on the site. Philip would not disclose how many merchants or products it expects to launch with. Amazon's announcement Wednesday sparked a 23 percent gain in the stock. See related story. Lycos' mall will facilitate all transactions, Philip said. Lycos' brand awareness is up over 200 percent in the past six months, Philip told an investment conference in San Francisco. Lycos Europe will go public on the Neuer Markt early next year, Philip said.
