INTERVIEW-Dell wired for explosive Brazil growth

By Shasta Darlington

SAO PAULO, Oct 1 (Reuters) - Dell Computer Corp. , the world's No. 2 personal computer maker, expects sales to soar in Brazil when it opens up its first Latin American factory there in November.

"We're confident we will grow very rapidly," Dell vice chairman Kevin Rollins told Reuters. "Our target is something in excess of 100 percent."

Of course, Dell will be starting from ground zero, with only about 1 percent of Brazil's PC market; but Rollins sees huge potential in Latin America's biggest country where only one out of 30 people has a
computer, compared with one in three in the United States.

With multinational clients clamoring for locally produced goods and with huge growth in Brazil's Internet business, Round Rock, Texas-based Dell is betting it will soon be one of the country's top five computer
companies.
