Lisa, I,m not so sure all that many Russians knew that "Star Wars" was impractical. Gorbachev, basically, was in power and he wanted to get away for communism anyway. I think he knew that it would never work, in the long run.
I don't blame your son, at all, for not going into Russia. I thought it was Kruschev that made that statement but, maybe he ws quoting Lenin. At the rate we are going, that may become true. I am,sometimes, reminded of "The Rise and Fall of the Roman Empire" and see too many similarities. In my heart, however, I believe that a higher power will take care of the situation as He sees fit.
