I think NOVL should seriously consider establishing an Internet division.

I generally see NOVL as too cautious, playing too much for its traditional corporate clients. Making small minuscule investments. Having a lot of cash in its chest when cash is the easiest thing to get: when start ups command high multiples and NOVL only a fraction.(WOuld'nt it be cool that Stone's start up be valued with a market cap bigger than NOVLs???).Having to go through a near death experience is something hard to forget..

A lot of people complain about PR, but good (or even bad) PR needs to have a theme. NOVLs theme seems to be not Identity Management but ,as one article put it yesterday, NOVLs theme seems to be *Identity Crisis*.

You would not buy SEARS (say)( I don;t mean to put a company down but you get the idea I hope) as an Internet play just because SEARS management tells you they are going to the Internet and they start to make some moves.. You just don't think that the guys at SEARS *get it*, that they will move at Internet speed.

The Internet came out of nowhere as a good send for NOVL and allowed NOVL to come back to life. Now that NOVL is showing some signs of healthy life: a little more spirit please!!!

NOVL has done a good job giving the old franchise clients -somewhere between 40-80 mill worldwide- something to upgrade to. Second NOVL has done great job adapting Netware technologies for the Internet so that new clients can use them: caching via appliances is a good example. The focus on NDS and investment in ZEN technologies is great.

The franchise is alive!

Now guys: take more risks guys, get on with it and show us the good Internet stuff!! If this cannot be done within the old structure then by goodness sakes establish an Internet division. Bill Gates did it.

I think Schmidt will do well if he comes out of this one swinging a home run next week.

Meantime I'll have some more Molson Ice draft please.
