wingman,

I too would rather see aol out of the picture from a pure play perspective. E@home has the potential to easily gain market and surpass aol with sub numbers over time.

The key is still roll out to me. As fast as it is available it sells.

What more does aol add? It ain't the subs, athm will win all it needs and people will switch to cable, as it becomes available and a must have for many, and it will be in large numbers.

Marketing? Excite will bring it in time and lots of dollars.

Quelling of the open access issue? Maybe, but near term so will good arguments as even the head of the FCC believes. Indefinitely? No, but for a long enough time for athm to get up and going and become a household name. Then maybe spin-off excite if feasible and open the portal for revenue splits or fees, etc.

But, aol in the equation to many represents instant Christmas morning for their portfolio. I like Christmas, but I'll wait for it to arrive. I don't believe my vote has much count though. And so it goes.

Most of us are here because the problem is (like trying to figure a guy like Ah) there is so much behind the scenes we are not privy to -at T/cable partners/ATHM/OTHERS- we are groping to unravel a present/future mystery of ego's/power plays/power struggles/motivations/unity-division-direction/etc. with only limited information.

Considering it all, I'm usually impressed things go as well as they do. Did I just say life is a soap opera?! :0)
