Paul,

Stone served one other purpose that Novell needed and still needs to complete in execution. Stone brought the "application Integration" message, offering cleanup, and application developer attraction to Novell's product line.

As any Application Developer and 3rd party ISV knows about Novell - their history on developing applications on Novell technology SUCKED. Stone has done an excellent job of simplifying, opening up, standardizing the APIs and development options for NetWare and NDS. But, the message still needs to be carried forward.

The recent investment with Wittman-Hart is one of the major signs of Novell's attempt to attain critical mass in NDS-integrated application development in the industry. I would hope this effort that fell on the shoulders of Stone is continued on with the same energy (if not more) by someone else in Novell.

As for your last comment about Novell being bought - do you know something we don't? In fact, could the recent departures of Stone and others be a sign we haven't been realizing? Are we suppose to read between the lines to a buy-out message?

I would hope Novell stands alone - specially with so much future potential in their products, but, if the right buy-out were to happen, maybe the right buyer would give Novell the marketing guts and clout that Novell just doesnt seem to ever figure out.
