Good post Rudy. I think Edamo posted some rules for shorting options sometime back. Essentially, they were;

- don't sell options unless the positions are backed by cash, not margin.
- have a profit target in mind and get out when it is hit.
- be ready to take possession of any shares that may be put to you.

I don't remember all the guidelines but they were quite good and should be followed and understood when shorting options. Essentially, by selling options, you've moved the balance of risk/reward more to your side since the time premium plays very favorably for an option seller.

Option selling is bullish as you've stated and some good traders on SI use it as a means to acquire the underlying at bargain prices. <g>
