>>NEW YORK, Oct 1 (Reuters) - Wal-Mart Stores Inc. WMT.N, the world's largest retailer, expects to have its overhauled Web site up and running this year in time for the holiday shopping season, the Wall Street Journal reported in Friday's onlineedition. Citing people familiar with the site's development, the Journal said the debut is expected soon after Halloween, and that the site will be tailored to individual shopping habits, remembering users' preferences and directing appropriate merchandise to their attention. A Wal-Mart spokeswoman, Melissa Brown, confirmed that the redesigned site will be launched "some time later this year" but would not specify the date, the Journal said. Wal-Mart plans to focus on selling toys and electronics such as digital cameras and DVD players, the Journal said, competing with leading online retailers like Amazon.com Inc. AMZN.O andeToys Inc. ETYS.O. Wal-Mart's current site carries a broad array of merchandise, but has not matched its dominance in retail stores with a towering presence in online retailing. Do you think that Bezo would be reluctant to swap his "value shares" for Wal-Marts "risky shares"? Maybe he might think different after Xmas. |
