aj,

Just time for one reply to a part of the Barron's article:

What if, for example, the competition for server chips
from the likes of Sun, HewlettPackard and IBM proves fiercer than expected?

HP server chips will be Intel chips, IA-64, at least after PA-RISC 8000's run out of gas (Intel foundries them anyway).

Sun admits they are no match for Intel or AMD in microprocessor design. Their current flagship SPARC, that powers their top of line server, E10000, (as many as 64 in a box) runs at 450 MHz.

IBM will use IA-64, and Power PC, and proprietary mainframe chips, depending on the product line. They are not even faithful to their own semi division. It's all about business and making money. They'll use IA by the millions.

The Barron's article is nothing but a headline grabber.

Tony
